In this age when medical science has found the means to cure or forestall the effects of many illnesses, we find an increasing number of people living for beyond the three score and ten years which has been proscribed for human life.
So often do people exceed this limit that we have come to think that death at seventy years of age is almost premature. That was the first thing that came to mind when I learned that Jack Helms had died. . . . "Gee, he was too young to die!" But Jack was a year beyond the expectancy of life according to the ancient formula. Of course there are many people who never even come close to living that long.
Many times I have stood in this pulpit and struggled to find sense and reason in the death of teenage young people. . . . children. . . and even little babies. And my friends there is no sense, there is no reason. . . . if we choose to ignore the fact of human immortality! Think with me just a little while, if you will.
I look out over the beauty of this valley and I am assured of eternity. The geologists tell us that these mountains which we sometimes refer to as the "eternal hills", that these mountains were once the bottom of the sea. They go on to say that these little gravel hills between here and the border were quite recently being carried along by ice thousands of feet in depth. Beyond that they tell us that the forces of erosion and weathering are even now slowly, but inexorably working to reduce it all to a sea level plain.
We are assured by these same authorities that the physical materials of which these rocks, hills and valleys are made will persis forever. The basic elements of which this earth is made will never cease to be. They will change form and combine in different compositions.CEMETERY: Tobacco Valley Cemetery, P.O. Box 809, Eureka, Montana 59917. Block 10, Lot 02, Div. C, Marker: yes
